1884-CC $20 Liberty AU58+ CACG

The population reports indicate that the 1884-CC twenty dollar is readily available from Very Fine through MS61. MS62s are very scarce and higher-grade pieces are rare, with none known above MS63. The deep orange-gold surfaces of this high-end near-Mint State example display considerable luster and exhibit sharply struck design features. Great overall eye appeal, aptly recognized by CACG. Only a few coins have achieved this grade with a total of 11 coins so graded at all services.

1889-CC $20 Liberty MS61 PCGS

The 1889-CC double eagle is moderately scarce in Uncirculated grades. This MS61 example displays semi-prooflike fields that offer mild contrast with the motifs. A well defined strike delivers strong definition to the design features. Several minuscule marks are visible over each side.

1890-CC $20 Liberty MS61 NGC

The 1890-CC Liberty double eagle claims a mintage of 91,209 pieces, a large production total in the context of the series. Although few examples were saved for numismatic purposes, a number of coins were used to settle accounts in foreign trade and later repatriated. A significant number were found in European holdings as late as the 1990s. Its relative availability in high grade makes the 1890-CC a favorite choice of branch mint type collectors. The present coin is an attractive Mint State specimen, with sharp definition on the obverse devices. The reverse design elements are strongly impressed. A few short marks account for the grade, as the lustrous orange-gold surfaces are lightly marked in other areas.
