1920-S $20 St Gaudens AU58 PCGS

Although the San Francisco Mint coined more than a half-million double eagles in 1920, no significant quantities of the issue have been returned from international holdings, the source of many surviving Saint-Gaudens twenties of most issues. Many issues of the series have seen tens or even hundreds of thousands of certified pieces, yet the 1920-S has a total certified population of 178 coins, including 109 at PCGS, the ninth lowest total population at that grading service. This example has straw-gold surfaces with light rub on the highest points that limit the grade. Very few handling marks are evident, even with magnification. This is an exceptional example.
